Is The American Dream More Attainable In Canada?

Canada has been the nation I have visited most in my journeys for many reasons.  Being on the same continent has made it easy, and Montreal and Quebec City calling me from just just a few hours drive from my home state of Maine, it has played host to many vacations.  Other parts of Canada have been explored, too, besides one of the best LGBT cities on the continent.  From the beautiful Maritime Provinces to the welcoming Toronto and Vancouver, I’ve always thought Canada would be a great place to live, if it weren’t for the snow.

Many may be saying damn the snow (including me)  if the United States continues to go toward being an orange’s definition of great again. There’s more than LGBT rights to consider. CNN hits on some of those America Dream points.

A new essay claims that those still seeking the American dream would be better off hopping on a flight to Canada.

In 2017, the Canadian dream offers far more, said Scott Gilmore, a former Canadian diplomat and the author of the essay “The American Dream has moved to Canada,” which was published in Canadian news magazine Maclean’s last month.
“No matter how you cut the American dream or no matter how you describe the American dream, whether it’s life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness or a car, a job and a degree, it’s now become easier in Canada,” Gilmore told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria. – cnn.com

But is it the LGBT American Dream? In the Gallup post titled “More Accepting of Homosexuals — Canada or U.S.?”
Gallup polls conducted in the past year would suggest that most Americans and Canadians believe, in general, that gays and lesbians should have equal access to employment opportunities. However, when asked about specific jobs, Canadians are more accepting than their southern neighbors. Americans appear to be less open than Canadians in regard to equal rights for gays and lesbians in the military and in teaching occupations.

Overall, Canadians seem to be somewhat more accepting of homosexuals in the workplace than are Americans. But both Canadians and Americans are more accepting of the general concept of homosexuals in the workplace than they are of homosexuals in specific types of job positions, like clergy members and elementary school teachers. – gallup.com

Is Canada an option?  Has the American Dream moved to a more northern latitude?
