Oscar-winner Zellweger spent two hours a day in hair and makeup to physically transform into Garland and studied her music and choreography from Garland’s Talk of the Town.

Supporting Zellweger in the role are actors Finn Wittrock, Michael Gambon, Rufus Sewell, Bella Ramsey, and Gemma-Leah Devereux as a young Liza Minnelli.

Last year Liza Minnelli was very public about not sanctioning the biopic of her late mother. After reports of Minnelli and Zellweger bonding over the film hit the press, Minnelli was quick to clear the air and put those rumors to rest saying:

I have never met nor spoken to Renee Zellweger…I don’t know how these stories get started, but I do not approve nor sanction the upcoming film about Judy Garland in any way. Any reports to the contrary are 100% fiction.

Still, Judy and Liza lovers alike will fawn over the visually stunning release of the trailer that gives us a peek at the film that is sure to be beautiful, yet heart-wrenching. It opens with visuals of the iconic Wizard of Oz set and gives bits of Garland at the end of her time, alluding at struggles—all while Zellweger sings a rendition of Garland’s legendary Over the Rainbow.
