This is one of those instances where I find it straight-up impossible to deliver the news objectively, because these people make my skin crawl all the way off my body.
As reported by the ever-reliable Pink News, self-proclaimed “Rap God” Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian West paid a visit on Monday to Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni. The highly religious leader is notoriously, violently anti-gay.
Since 2014, homosexuality has been illegal in Uganda via the parliament’s Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act—punishable by life in prison.
In 2009, it was reported that Museveni backed a proposed bill that would make same-sex activity punishable by death.
By all accounts, it was a friendly visit. West and Kardashian West gifted Museveni a pair of Yeezy sneakers.
Museveni took to Twitter later on Monday with the following message:
“I welcome American entertainment stars Kanye West and @KimKardashian to Uganda. I held fruitful discussions with the duo on how to promote Uganda’s tourism and the arts. I thank Kanye for the gift of white sneakers. Enjoy your time in Uganda. It is the true Pearl of Africa.”
West is an outspoken (if often unintelligible) supporter of president Donald Trump.
Kardashian West was recently (perhaps rightly) accused of homophobia after she seemed to accuse Tyson Beckford of being gay.
