D23, Disney’s personal convention to share movie and theme park news, is currently underway. And with all of the trailers and news surrounding the mouse house, there existed a lightning strike in the name of Kit Harington.
Deadline broke the story last night that former Game of Thrones star Kit Harington would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After this news leak, Harington started to trend on Twitter. But, it wasn’t just the headline that Harington was going to air in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that got people’s attention. It was the idea of Harington playing the role of X-Men’s Wolverine.
At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige announced that mutants would be coming to the MCU. And with Fox being acquired by Disney, that means the X-Men can finally play with the Avengers. With that in their minds, Twitter users went crazy with the idea of Harington playing the Canadian mutant.

Wolverine is 5'3". Kit Harington is about 5'7"/5'8". So everyone can stop saying he's too short to play Wolverine.

Kit Harington as Adam Warlock would be incredible. But Kit Harington as Wolverine is the casting we all need pic.twitter.com/wRQsRgIh9W

But now, it turns out that wasn’t in fact the case.Disney and Marvel were quick to correct this misconception during their The Eternals panel today. Along with having the main cast join the stage, the new casting was confirmed.
It was announced that Kit Harington was not cast as Wolverine but as Dane Whitman in The Eternals. Whitman is a minor character in Marvel comics who takes on the moniker of Black Knight. So it looks like Harington has gone from a crow of the Night’s Watch to a Black Knight of the Eternals.

But this isn’t the only great news. Don’t forget that there is supposed to be a gay male lead in The Eternals. While Feige and Marvel Studios have yet to confirm who the character and actor are, many speculate that it’s Harington’s former Game of Thrones co-star Richard Madden as Icarus. Until we get official confirmation, we can only guess. But there’s no denying that The Eternals might be a surprise hit on Disney’s hands.
