Fans of Lady Gaga may be disappointed next Sunday night, February 24, after the 91st Academy Awards are over.
The “Born This Way” singer has secured not one but two nominations at this year’s ceremony: Best Actress for A Star is Born and Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) for “Shallow” from the same film. The co-writers of “Shallow” also nominated are Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando.
She’s been an award show darling at not only the film ceremonies but the music ones as well. This past Sunday, February 10, she took home two Grammy Awards, including one for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Shallow” alongside her A Star is Born costar Bradley Cooper.
One award that she will more than likely not take home at the Oscars on Sunday is Best Actress, at least from the critics’ point of view. GoldDerby enlisted the help of thirty-three top critics to give their take on who will win big.
Only five have Gaga taking home the coveted award that has gone to legendary actresses in the past like Halle Berry, Kathy Bates and Diane Keaton. The majority feel like Glenn Close will win for her performance in The Wife. It has so far netted her all the top awards including the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Critics Choice (the latter she shared with Gaga). This is also Glenn’s 7th Oscar nomination overall, fourth in this category. It is Gaga’s first for Best Actress.
No need to fret, Little Monsters, as every single critic lists Gaga as the winner for Best Original Song. Just like Glenn winning Best Actress based on track record, it would make sense for Gaga to do the same as she’s swept all the awards from the major ceremonies.
Other categories don’t have a clear-cut winner just yet… especially Best Actor. It appears to be split between three of the nominees: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody), Bradley and Christian Bale (Vice).
The 91st Academy Awards air next Sunday on ABC.
