Maine: Petitioning To Put Queers ‘Back In The Closet’

One of the mottos of Maine is "The Way Life Should Be."  Apparently, there is a collective of citizens that feel the way life should be is living in a god fearing christian law abiding state.  Good lord, I'm so glad I moved.

On Friday, I had the horrible pleasure of viewing a live newsfeed from my old homestate of Maine.  It included a bunch of grey haired individuals trying to push homosexuals back in the closet.  Why do you ask?  Well here is the local news coverage of the talk. Maybe they will be more unbiased than I.

In Maine, it’s been illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation since 2005, but LGBTQ-rights opponents want to change that. Two well-known conservative Christian activists announced Friday that they are preparing a petition drive to repeal those protections, WCSH reports.

Michael Heath and Paul Madore are leading the effort to strike “sexual orientation” from the state’s Human Rights law. They say that the law is part of a “sexual orientation agenda” that is hurting their families by denying their religious freedom and promoting immorality. Repealing the language would take Maine back to the days when it was legally to discriminate against someone for being gay, lesbian, or bisexual.

“Very simply, it moves a behavior that belongs in the closet back in the closet,” told WCSH.

The language for the proposed ballot initiative was approved in April and the pair said they plan to begin collecting signatures by November. LGBTQ advocates said that even if the measure makes it to the ballot, it’s not likely to pass:

But the leader of the group Equality Maine, which led the effort to pass same-sex marriage, said he thinks most Maine people don’t want to resume the fight over the issues. Matt Moonen said Heath and Madore represent an “extreme element,” which he believes most Maine voters will reject if the referendum vote Heath wants becomes reality.

The activists are also opposed to marriage equality, which passed in Maine in 2012, though it is not included in their current petition. – lgbtqnation.com

Unfortunately, I started making comments on the live broadcast.  If you want to see some of my comments and others, go over to Paul Merrill's Facebook Page.  He reported for WMTW and was the one to live broadcast the horrific thing.  Here is that live broadcast in its entirety.

Too old to procreate and therefore not allowed to have sex under biblical law, these sexually pent up individuals have decided to open the box of hatred and bigotry in Maine that we thought we put in storage.  Hey, I guess if we say we're born this way, maybe they're born that way, too.  Can we put them on a deserted island?  Afterall, do unto others …

  1. Don’t talk about hatred and

Don't talk about hatred and bigotry until you get rid of your own.  Characterizing  your opponents as a bunch of old grey haired people who are too old to procreate, is ageist and hateful.  As a gay man who is over 65 I can see you are as much a bigot as these people.

  2. So I need some education here

So I need some education here as someone who lives in a Southern state dealing with this crap right now. (NC) I've never been to Maine, always wanted to go and will someday. My question is, is this a mostly minority opinion? I've always looked at Maine and New England in general as solid BLUE states.

They are definitely a minority opinion. They still will move forward and try to rally all the homophobes and bigots, and the good people of this state will still crush their stupid hate filled antiquated bill at the polls. Hopefully they will die if old age soon and take their twisted hatred with then to the dirt.

Also these two “God-fearing people” (paaaa–lezzzzzze).. The only thing they fear is the ignorance of their own arrogance, information and possibly themselves using this as a way to hide the fact that they themselves question their own sexuality.. It’s done all of the time..

  5. I think psychology schools

I think psychology schools need to put out more of their researches that show the damages caused by religious fundamentalism and how strong adherence to religion can destroy morality.

These people have an grotesque superiority complex, they want to make the world be and look according to their own views, even if their views are immoral reprehensible and a threat to society; they simply want things their way and will not listen to anybody who don't conform to their twiested ways.

These people are against morality, human rights, understanding, rationality and peace. These people are terrorists, invaders, witch-hunters, they are what makes society wrong, they are the ones who make society stop progressing. They represent what's wrong with society.

These people need to be taken seriously at once and for all and be fought. Science is against their claim. Use it to demolish their abhorrent way of thinking.

People with superiority complex have never been peaceful; they are a threat to humanity.

Unfortunately, with our governor so full of hate himself, that he has made it acceptable for Mainers to spew hatred of anyone with differences.

  8. These two individuals as well

These two individuals as well as the other "followers" are BIGOTS…. What makes any of them think that God doesn't have shame for them for not accepting ALL OF HIS children for who they are , the way they are. Himosexuality isn't something new.. It isn't a fad… It isn't something you just wake up and decide to be… You are born to love a certain person.. And our God.. Yes EVERYONE'S God accepts ALL OF His children's choices as to whom they love… He's never made any mention that it is wrong.. Love thy neighbor.. Maybe when God said a man take himself a woman … He didn't fully know that he had made more than a cookie cutter man and woman.. Some men more feminine.. Some women more masculine.. Some women who would love one of the same.. Just as well as a man would Love one of the same.. God apparently didn't have any problems with it at all as for all these years He allowed the world to spin on its axis and never fall off..So why do we "so-called God-fearing, religious , righteous, better than someone else people" think that you have the power over God to call your brother's and sister's name's and try to take away their God given rights to live in peace.. SHAME ON YOU.. God is not happy with any of you

  9. Biggest issue to consider..

Biggest issue to consider…the state of our country and the irreverence and lack of honesty by the possible Democratic contender. Now there is a REAL issue!

    • Honey?  I think you wandered

Honey?  I think you wandered onto the wrong site.  I think you're looking for one of them Duggar chicks or maybe a tour of Noah's Ark or maybe tickets for a Ted Nugent concert? Weeze all queerz for HIllary, here, as she is our girl.  She is also the only adult politician running for the prez spot, so, umm… step off with all the racist conspiracy nonsense (I read your comment below, too, hon) and find yourself a different garden to grow in, mm-kay?  Peace and love and whatever else that floats your little tin foil hat boat.

  10. Good heavens….get a life!

Good heavens….get a life! There are far more searing issues to be purporting. Actually this is a non-issue so get a on a new bandwagon. How about the issues of Sharia in Maine? The bending over backwards for Muslim students, families, etc.  How about illegals? Fight the real fights….all humans are part of humanity…stop the insanity!

    • That’s funny how you say “all

That's funny how you say "all humans are part of humanity" but what you really mean is everyone except illegals and Muslims. The "real fight" is what we humans are doing to each other. The LACK of humanity is the problem. We are no greater than any other yet we behave as such.  Obviously "love thy neighbor" is a great quote until we actually have to put it to use.
