Fresh off the Halloween sugar rush, November marks that time of year when we anticipate the season of eating has begun. We move right on from the candy corn into planning for the big Turkey Day and retail brands, of course, waste no time bombarding the airwaves with holiday shopping suggestions.
These are just a few of the visual cues that let us know that Christmas time is near –but it’s not officially the season until Mariah’s “All I Want for Christmas” inundates our eardrums damn near 24 hours a day on nearly every radio station. And so it begins…
Like clockwork, the song is back, bringing holiday cheer and making Mariah millions of dollars in airplay around the world again. But THIS time, there’s a new addition to the diva’s musical holiday musings: a fun holiday partnership and promotion for Walkers Crisps.
The glass-shattering icon shared the new commercial on Instagram last week, much to the delight of her worldwide fans. The comedic advert features Mimi as herself film a performance of “All I Want for Christmas,” and after the Director yells “Cut,” mayhem ensues as Mariah and one of her hired “elves” fight over the last bag of Walkers Crisps.
It’s very festive and glam. Mariah looks incredible and sounds excellent as she delivers her signature whistle note that can summon the world’s dolphins to the shoreline. After a few years of bad headlines and lackluster performances, Mariah’s been riding high again, seemingly focused back on her career and giving fans the star performance quality that made her a household name.
In 2017 Newsweek reported “All I want for Christmas” had netted over 60 million dollars, including various covers by other artists and placements in media. Carey shares co-writing for the song with only one other person, so trust they are rolling in some serious dough, and that dough continues to rise with each new Christmas season.
Since you’ll be hearing the song a gazillion times before Christmas anyway, you might as well get one of those listens out of the way now.
