Award-winning out recording artist Matt Zarley drops his stunning new cover of Billy Porter’s moving power-pop ballad, “TIME.”

Zarley’s effortless, shimmering vocals pair perfectly with the lush, cinematic arrangement. The video, a musical meditation on human connection, was shot in multiple locations across the U.S., including New York City, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas.

The song, written by Brian Steckler and Emmy/Grammy/3-time Tony Award winner Billy Porter, originally appeared on Porter’s 2005 album, At The Corner Of Broadway And Soul.

Choreographer Mia Michaels brought the track to national attention in 2007 when she used “TIME” in a dance tribute to her father on the hit competition show, So You Think You Can Dance. It became the standout moment of Season 3, and the song was eventually featured on 3 different seasons of the show.

“The song’s timeless message felt especially poignant right now…and seems like the ideal time to sing it myself,” shares Zarley.

Porter and Zarley met in New York City when they were both 20, pursuing their Broadway dreams (p.s. they got there). The two have remained lifelong friends and often collaborated on several music projects over the years.

Zarley first found the national spotlight in 2002 when he released his first album, Debut, and became the first out gay man to be featured as one of PEOPLE Magazine’s ’50 Hottest Bachelors.’

“It was an unbelievable honor,” he recalls. “So many people said to me, ‘You’re so brave for doing this,’ and I said, ‘I’m just being me, I don’t know what’s brave about that.'”

Matt Zarley was PEOPLE Magazine's first out gay man to be featured in its annual "Top Bachelors' issue in 2002

Ten years later, Zarley scored headlines again when he won the top two honors (Single of the Year and Album of the Year) for “Change Begins With Me” at the 2012 OutMusic Awards in Las Vegas.

And in 2023, PEOPLE Magazine revisited Zarley as he released his 6th album, 11 O’Clock Number, based on his acclaimed musical web series of the same name.

The new single “TIME” is available now wherever you consume your music.
