Mega-Church Pastor Joel Osteen Chimes In On Gays

Joel Osteen— televangelist, author, and Pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas—has been hitting the airwaves hard promoting his new book, Break Out: 5 Keys to Go Beyond Your Barriers and Live an Extraordinary Life.

Osteen recently sat down with Josh Zepps of HuffPost Live to talk shop on everything from prayer, to the Pope, to (of course) the gays.

During their chit chat, Zepps read a piece that he liked from Osteen's new book:

"It doesn't matter who likes you or doesn't like you, all that matters is that God likes you. He accepts you, he approves of you."

Zepps followed up by asking if that included homosexuals.

"Absolutely. I believe that God breathed life into every person, and that every person is made in the image of God and you have to accept them as they are on their journey. I'm not here to preach hate or push people down."

Well, surprise, surprise!

What did you think about what Osteen had to say? And may we ask, why do so many preachers talk in that creepy-voice? *shivers*

  1. Since God says homosexuality
Since God says homosexuality is sin, IT IS. When we sin this way, along with fornication, we sin AGAINST OUR OWN BODY. Check our love walk….If love God, ourselves, and one another, we won’t do things to destroy our relationship with God, ourselves, and each other. Jesus lives in us. When we sin, we pollute our temples. We MUST understand this. Truth MUST BE PREACHED AT THE PULPIT, AND OUR DAILY LIVES. WE MUST DIE TO SELF, WE ARE BOUGHT WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS. God did NOT give us greasy Grace, He empowered us to renew our minds to the mind of Christ. We ARE NEW CREATIONS, IF we have Christ as our Savior. What about submitting to His Lordship? We are not lord.

First, he says that gays aren’t an example of God’s best work. Now he’s playing the “you are made in God’s image” card.
    Hypocrisy, thy name is Joel.

    • Christians are made in God’s

Christians are made in God's image, but that doesn't mean they aren't struggling with sin which isn't God's best work, but thanks to the blood of Jesus, God still sees us as only In His image and worthy to be with Him..so stop being a babbling, stone throwing, Pharisee already

  7. Did any one see his interview

Did any one see his interview on "Oprah's Nex't Chapter", when Oprah posed the question to him about homosexuality?

He said that very same thing about how he's not about hate, (I'm paraphrasing his words here) BUT you can't deny the scripture. I hope someone can find video to get his exact words. But whatever his exact words were, it's clear that those of you who are suspicious, have every right to be.

Even if he believed it was a sin, he is not prejudice against homosexuals. Some homosexuals believe that it is a sin, but they still choose to acknowledge the lifestyle.

same sex marriage really necessary? marriage is certification of ownership, I myself do not want to be owned. I’m human not an animal.

    • The concept of marriage

The concept of marriage itself is not really the issue.  Marriage as a function of society and civil rights is completely necessary.  For purposes of simply equal legal rights and human rights.  I think it's also important to remember, this is only the first step.  10 years from now, as a result of these simple steps today for equality, gay/straight will not be an issue.

Sounds all well and good, but the follow-up question should have been asked: "do you still believe homosexuality is a sin?" and Rev. Osteen would have answered yes….I recently heard him clarify this point in an interview.

Actions are better than words……so, will he allow a Same Sex marriage in his church or fight so that children can be adopted by two loving parents, regardless of sexual identity?
