Some men are getting into tight trunks to celebrate gay pride in South Florida, but it’s not going to be in a parade.

“Wrestling with Pride” is coming to the Wilton Manors on Thursday, February 22 to support LGBTQ programs in South Florida.

Stephen Driscoll, the president and CEO of NewPro Wrestling and the gay wresting company BGEast Wrestling, pitched the idea of a fundraising wrestling event to the Pride Center at Equality Park.

Driscoll is keeping the finer details about the event a secret, but he’s shared with South Florida Gay News that there will be “a gay twist” and that he’ll be the ring announcer with a “full leopard suit” on.

On top of that, he’s shared that independent wrestlers from across the United States will be participating. That includes Fort Lauderdale local Jaden Ecstasy. Plus, Driscoll shared that drag queens will be involved in some way.

The center, which has community betterment programs like helping seniors find affordable housing, intervention programs, and STD testing, is an important staple of the Wilton Manors community.

“I think what’s unique is that it’s a card featuring both gay and straight professional wrestlers, from a business that is notoriously homophobic,” Driscoll said.

“It’s a sign of the times. The straight wrestlers are more than happy to be involved [in Wrestling with Pride],” he said.

Driscoll also shared that he’s hoping the show will be so successful that it becomes a regular event and maybe happens once or twice a year.

If you are interested in going to the event or just financially supporting it, you can buy tickets at the PrideCenterFlorida.org website, or through EventBrite.

Tickets are available through February 21 and are only $20. Otherwise, it’s $25 at the door and $50 for VIP seating.
