In case you missed it, ABC’s What Would You Do? Featured a familiar RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant last week. Season 10 Miss Congeniality Monét X Change joined host John Quiñones for some commentary about a staged scene with two parents who see their son in full drag for the first time.
If you’re unfamiliar with the format of the show, WWYD? is a hidden camera show that sets up scenarios and films reactions from those who are witnessing the acts before their very eyes. Last week we wrote about a WWYD? episode that involved a bakery denying a wedding cake for a same-sex couple, another important LGBTQ issue.
In this particular episode, Monét and John watch as local New York queen Jackie Cox is heartbroken to discover her parents’ embarrassment at meeting their son at a diner as a drag queen.
Diners at the restaurant look upon them in disgust and confusion and when Jackie leaves from the table the parents, who are actors, take the chance to really get to hear what people think about the whole situation.
Most of the diners encourage the parents to be more supportive of their gay son while one particular diner is a little hesitant.
The show’s main objective is to gain perspective into people’s reactions and find out what they feel is the “right” thing to do.

If you are ever in situations like this do you typically speak up for others or do you just observe?
