Yet another movie musical has been greenlit in Hollywood.

Monster Mash is the latest movie musical announced for production. It joins the ranks of In the Heights, a new version of West Side Story, the ever delayed Wicked, the infamous Cats, and more. That said, Monster Mash is different than the rest as it’s based on a single song. “Monster Mash” is an iconic Halloween song by Bobby “Boris” Pickett. The single was released in 1962 and has continued to be used in commercial stores and radio stations every Halloween season.

The man helming the Monster Mash movie is Matt Stawski, who was nominated for a 2010 Grammy after directing CeeLo Green’s “F*** You.” In addition, Black List writer Will Widger will write the movie’s script. Plus, Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen is producing with Stawski set to executive produce.

This Monster Mash film is also being added to another list of upcoming movies. Only, this second list falls under Universal’s monster-themed films. This includes Elizabeth Moss’ The Invisible Man, opening later this month, Paul Feig’s Dark Army, and Elizabeth Banks’ The Invisible Woman.
