From an article posted in the Advocate, according to a poll from the Levada Center in Russia, the majority of Russians think sex between two people of the same gender is "reprehensible" or deserving of condemnation.
The poll surveyed 1,600 people from both the Eastern European nation's cities and the countryside and found that 83 percent of Russians, regardless of age, think gay sex is "always reprehensible" or "almost always reprehensible." Only 8 percent of those polled had no problem with gay sex.
It is worth noting that intolerance toward gay people has increased in the past two decades rather than decrease like it has in most Western countries. In 1998, 68 percent of Russians found gay sex reprehensible, a figure that rose to 76 percent in 2008 and now 83 percent in 2018.
More than likely, this figure continues to grow, not because of the stigma of being gay, but because of the danger. It was reported last spring that Chechen authorities were arresting homosexual men and placing them in camps where they were tortured. Many have even been killed.
While 8 out of 10 Russians disagree with the gay lifestyle, only around 3 out of 10 Americans disagree with it, according to the Pew Research Center. Since Trump allegedly has ties with Russia, maybe he can put in the good word, and help out the LGBT community there. Just a thought.
