A new face has just been confirmed for the role of the dark knight.
Variety reports that Robert Pattinson and his team are currently closing the deal on him playing young Batman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman. And possibly this leak of information is being used to stir up buzz and force Warner Bros.’ hands.
No word is currently out on what The Batman will entail besides it being a story about a younger Batman in the first few years of protecting Gotham. While it won’t be an origin story, and frankly we’ve had enough of those, it will show the caped crusader figuring out the ropes.
Pre-production for the film is expected to start this summer with the movie set to release in theaters on June 25, 2021.
Reeves took over for Ben Affleck on the proposed project in January 2017. This allowed for Reeves to also pick who he’d want in the role now that Affleck has hung up his cape. And it appears that Pattinson is at the top of the list, despite it not being completely finalized yet. But again, this leaked news of Pattinson being eyed for the role will almost assuredly seal the deal.

Reeves will not only be directing the film but producing it. In that venture, he will be joined by Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark. In addition, Reeves is working on the film’s script.
The film has many fans crossing their fingers. The DC Cinematic Universe has seen many ups and downs in the past few years. While there have been narrative failures like Batman v Superman and Justice League, fans have also been amazed by films like Wonder Woman, Shazam, and Aquaman. Plus, the upcoming Joker has many people’s attention.
But with Pattinson now added to The Batman, an actor who’s gone from Twilight heartthrob to arthouse favorite, the film is getting even more prominence. But with Pattinson already having four films coming in the future, Claire Denis’ High Life, Robert Eggers’ The Lighthouse, Netflix’s The King, and Waiting for Barbarians, it’s a surprise to see that the actor is adding on another big project.
We’ll see how DC and Warner Bros. react to this casting leak in due time. Until then, many comic book and superhero movie fans have just gotten some exciting news.
