Pod Save The Queen: Dolly Parton’s America Is The Must Listen To Podcast Of The Moment

Every once in a while, there is a podcast that crosses mediums and becomes the “must listen to” podcast of the moment. The only downside is that the episodes end!  Last year’s Missing Richard Simmons ended (spoiler alert) anti-climactically, with Simmons never coming forward in the dramatic final episode fashion many of us wanted. The latest podcast of the moment, Dolly Parton’s America, is very different for one distinct reason; from the beginning, the subject is a willing participant in the series, revealing clips of herself and sides of herself many of us have never seen before.

Dolly Parton’s America is a nine-episode series, and from the first episode (dedicated to some of Dolly’s best “Sad Ass Songs” (also the title of the first episode) you will be absolutely hooked. From interviews with lifelong Dolly Parton fans (“Dolly-ologists” as they are called), rare clips and music all weaved together to tell the story of Dolly Parton in a way that we have never seen before. From Parton’s early recordings (her actual first recording is included on this podcast) to finally standing on her own, after being the “girl singer” for the legendary Porter Wagoner. Creator and host Jad Abumrad, grabbed an introduction to Parton after his physician father became friends with the singer after treating her. From Parton’s impact on feminism to what the meaning behind many of her lyrics truly are, we get to hear from Parton herself as she reflects on so many aspects of her legendary career.
