Another legend has passed away.
Broadway star and Gay icon Carol Channing died peacefully in her sleep, according to her publicist B. Harland Boll.
As Boll announced in a statement:
“It is with extreme heartache, that I have to announce the passing of an original industry pioneer, legend and icon: Miss Carol Channing. I admired her before I met her, and have loved her since the day she stepped … or fell rather … into my life. It is so very hard to see the final curtain lower on a woman who has been a daily part of my life for more than a third of it. We supported each other, cried with each other, argued with each other, but always ended up laughing with each other.”
Carol Channing is a Broadway legend who starred in several hit shows such as “Hello, Dolly,” “The Vamp,” “Show Girl,” and more. She also had a successful film career. She appeared in several movies such as “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “The First Traveling Saleslady,” “Skidoo,” and more.
Her career was honored when her name was added to the American Theatre Hall of Fame. In addition, she received a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 1995.
Channing then continued performing well into her 90s by singing songs and sharing stories with fans in a cabaret style.
She will be missed.
