Ryan Murphy’s LGBTQ History-Making ‘Pose’ Headed for FX

It looks like Ryan Murphy is headed toward production on his upcoming musical series Pose. The show was officially greenlit by FX and is slated for production in February to premiere in Summer 2018. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy will direct the first two episodes and there are ball legends and era survivors who are consulting on the project.

Set in 1980s New York City, Pose will be a groundbreaking show that examines the ball culture and gay lifestyles of NYC. The show is obviously inspired by Paris is Burning, the 1990 film that introduced many to the ball and voguing culture of New York.

Not only will Pose make history with the largest Trans cast ever to appear on a show including MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar and Angelica Ross, but Pose will make American television history by featuring over 50 LGBTQ characters. The show will also feature Evan Peters and Kate Mara as a New Jersey couple who explores the world of 1980s NYC glamour. James Van Der Beek will also star in Pose as a Peters' boss.

Murphy shared with The Hollywood Reporter:

I am thrilled to join forces with John Landgraf and FX Networks and FXP and Dana Walden, Gary Newman and Fox 21 Television Studios to present what I think is a game-changer of a show, which at its heart is an uplifting series about the universal quest for identity, family and respect. Along with being a dance musical and an affirming look at American life in the 1980s, I'm so proud that Pose and FX has made history right from the beginning by featuring the most trans series regular actors ever in an American television production. Additionally, the first season of Pose will feature 50-plus LGBTQ characters — a record in American television history. I can't wait for people to see this incredibly talented, passionate cast.

What a huge moment for the LGBTQ community as representation is on a rise for these characters in mainstream media. Pose will definitely be a must watch.
