The GLAAD Gala celebrates and features storytellers who accelerate acceptance for the LGBTQ community. The Davidson/Valentini Award is presented to an LGBTQ media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ community.

Mathews, who is a host on RuPaul’s Drag Race, also has his own podcast Straight Talk with Ross Mathews and was recently runner up and “America’s Favorite Houseguest” for the very first Celebrity Big Brother. He is best-selling author of the book Man Up where he tells the story of his rise from being Ross the Intern for Jay Leno to being the loveable, hilarious, high-pitched LGBTQ icon we know today.

Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President and CEO, says this about Mathews:

Throughout his storied career in television, Ross Mathews has brought his undeniable wit and humor – along with LGBTQ visibility – to audiences around the globe. By his work and appearances across different networks and genres, he truly embodies the spirit of the Davidson/Valentini Award.
