Men with beards just keep getting more awesome.

A study led by Barnaby Dixson and published in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology determined that men with beards were more likely to be considered long-term relationship material, compared to those without.

The study itself was designed for the woman in mind, but some of its factors can be relatable to all types of people… gay men included.

They say that bearded men straddle the line of masculinity and femininity and the beard essentially alters the face shape of a man. For women, they may find this very attractive as they don’t want someone too masculine or too feminine. Facial hair also indicates testosterone, and testosterone equals maturity.

This is an interesting angle to dissect, as I’m not sure that would be entirely true in the gay community as masculine and feminine blurs the lines of clean shaven and bearded faces. Yet, according to this study, all 8,250 women that they polled preferred a man with a beard when asked to rate men (both with and without facial hair) on a scale from 1 to 6 on attractiveness and on a spectrum of “relationship longevity.”

The most liked facial hair was a heavy stubble. So Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, George Clooney and more fit into this category. Got it.
