The Oscar winning Bohemian Rhapsody may get a second installment.
Page Six reports that there are starting talks about making a sequel to the Queen biopic.
These rumors come from Rudi Dolezal who directed 30 of Queen’s original music videos and a close friend of Freddie Mercury’s. Dolezal shared during an interview, about Queen’s manager and Bohemian Rhapsody’s producer Jim Beach, that a second film is “being heavily discussed in the Queen family.”
Dolezal adds when mentioning Beach, “I’m sure he plans a sequel that starts with Live Aid.”
This is significant since the film ended with the band’s Live Aid performance, which happens to be around when Dolezal first started working for Queen.
Dolezal’s words are also echoed by guitarist Brian May who hinted that a sequel is in talks. In December, May hinted at this possible second film by saying, “I think Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel.”
That said, it seems like these talks are merely at the very starting phase between members of the band and those closest to them. Plus, the film will have to face the hurdle of opposition due to the original director Bryan Singer. Though, it is highly doubtful that a second project would involve the defamed director.
Meanwhile, Dolezal is working on a book to discuss his friendship and professional career with Freddie Mercury called “My Friend, Freddie.”
