Right-Wing Conspiracist Believes Coronavirus Was Sent to Purge Gay People

Pastor and far-right broadcaster from TruNews Rick Wiles was recently given press credentials by the White House and used such credentials to spew nonsense, saying that the coronavirus that has killed over 300 people and infected more than 14,000 was sent by God to purge LGBT people, according to Metroweekly.

Wiles was given the press credentials because he was asked to cover Donald Trump’s trip to the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, despite TruNews being known for spreading hateful and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories, such as saying that it was the Jewish Mafia who assassinated John F. Kennedy and that former President Obama is a “demon from hell” and the “jihadist-in-chief.” It’s hard to believe that anyone would listen to someone like that but unfortunately, people do.

On January 27th, Wiles used TruNews as a platform to talk about the coronavirus. In his segment, he referred to China as the epicenter of the outbreak and that the outbreak was “one of the last steps of judgment” because of China’s communist government system. He then shifted focus to the United States, saying that the US isn’t much better off, saying such things as “Look at the spiritual rebellion that is in this country… Just vile, disgusting people in this country now, transgendering little children, perverting them.” He also mentioned sexual immorality and filth in American TV shows, no doubt alluding to the increased visibility of LGBT in television. How can anyone take this guy seriously? He used “transgender” as a verb!

Also during his segment, Wiles said that the Angel of Death is spreading across the world and that anyone who “mocks God” better “wise up because there is a Death Angel on the loose right now,” comparing the coronavirus to an angel of death, and very obviously saying that LGBT people mock God, despite there being LGBT Christians. If this were really the case, why isn’t the coronavirus only killing LGBT people? It’s terrible that lives are being lost due to a viral outbreak, and Wiles is using his platform to spread his vapid and hurtful views, a truly despicable and disrespectful thing to do to the victims and family of the virus. But what would I expect? Some people are just too far gone.

  1. We’re different. We break their rules. We disappoint them, disgust them, and confound their expectations. No surprise they hate us and that’s not going to change.
