Stage Kiss is the kind of mini drama that can turn “I’ll just watch one episode” into 45 minutes of wondering how you got emotionally invested in two fictional people who have known each other for approximately seven minutes. If you regularly get sucked into those mini reels/TikTok dramas, consider this your warning.

CandyJar has launched Stage Kiss, a new Western Boys’ Love series centred on two male high-school students whose fake stage romance develops into a real, lustful relationship. And yes, the setup is basically Romeo and Juliet — except the star-crossed lovers are two boys who would probably rather throw the script at each other.
Meet the Romeo and Juliet who can’t stand each other
Stage Kiss follows Lucas (Felix Merback), a high-school theatre student who has spent four years hating his school’s lacrosse “golden boy”, Elijah (Sky Kawai).
Naturally, the universe decides that the best way to resolve four years of mutual hostility is to make them play romantic leads opposite each other.

The school production is a same-sex adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, forcing Lucas and Elijah into the sort of close proximity that is particularly inconvenient when one of them is supposed to be your sworn enemy.

And because apparently rehearsing Shakespearean romance isn’t awkward enough, Elijah offers to teach Lucas “what real passion looks like” — beginning with a kiss that is very much not in the script.
When the stage romance gets a little too convincing
From there, Stage Kiss makes the rehearsals considerably more interesting. As Lucas and Elijah practise privately, their exchanges start going beyond memorising lines. The hostility that has defined their relationship begins giving way to attraction, and the boundary between performing romance and actually feeling it gets increasingly blurry.

Elijah’s sexuality also becomes clearer as their relationship develops, while Lucas finds himself caught in a situation where the feelings between them are becoming harder to dismiss as part of the performance.
In other words: Shakespeare gave us forbidden romance, CandyJar gave us enemies, and the short-form drama gods apparently decided we needed both in one very gay package.
Stage Kiss has 50 episodes, because apparently one cliffhanger wasn’t enough
Stage Kiss has 50 episodes, ranging from 30 seconds to one and a half minutes. That may sound dangerously brief, but anyone familiar with short-form drama knows that 30 seconds is more than enough time to deliver a kiss, a betrayal, a dramatic stare and a cliffhanger designed to make you immediately tap “next.”

The series was released on CandyJar on October 2, with all 50 episodes available on its official website, subject to release.
And with the entire story built around two enemies gradually discovering that their chemistry might be considerably more convincing than their Shakespearean acting, Stage Kiss seems tailor-made for anyone who enjoys their romance fast, messy and delivered in tiny, dangerously bingeable pieces.
Because if Romeo and Juliet taught us anything, it’s that complicated romance and theatre rarely end quietly. Give the story two guys, a forbidden kiss and 50 bite-sized episodes, and suddenly Shakespeare’s Verona feels like high school with better costumes.
