Last month, Instinct reported on a vague social media post by actor Taron Egerton that seemed like a casual coming out moment.
The 29-year-old posted a pic of a friend with the caption, “Cutie. My boy."
When an Instagram user asked if the fellow in the photo was Egerton’s boyfriend, the Kingsman star liked the comment
Another user asked for the guy’s name to which Egerton replied, “Nah, he’s mine and mine only.”
All very coy and upbeat, but it certainly got the interwebs in an uproar as the post garnered over 34,000 likes and comments.
It turns out the handsome actor was just being playful.
In an interview with Radio Times, Egerton explained, “One of the lads was at my London flat and I Instagrammed a picture of him and said ‘Look at this cutie’, and a million outlets reported I was coming out as gay.”
“I’m not gay but two of my mates came out when I was 15 and it was a joy to support them because, as a group, we are all secure in who we are,” he added. “I’m certainly not going to stop calling my mates cuties and gorgeous, because they are cuties and they are gorgeous.”
The actor also shared a bit about his experience working with Kevin Spacey on the film saying Spacey was never “inappropriate” with him.
“There’s a fine line, though, between someone being an audacious flirt and being predatory? I thought he was the former. It’s sad his professional demise threw a shadow over our film,” Egerton says.
While Egerton is not actually a gay man, he will play one in the upcoming Elton John biopic, Rocketman.
The film, which chronicles John’s meteoric rise to pop much stardom arrives in movie theaters in May 2019.
