Not only did Mariah Carey write the new theme song for the sure to be hit ABC sitcom Mixed-ish (a spin off of the smash sitcom Black-ish) she has both recorded it and filmed a video, featuring (who else) her own children Monroe and Moroccan. “In The Mix” is the perfect accompaniment to this (sure to be) game changer of a sitcom.
With a retro vibe and hints of her own hit “Fantasy” as the track kicks off, this is the kind of Mimi that fans have been yearning for. Carey’s consistently strong vocals are front and center, and there are even a hint of her signature (and still powerful) whistle tones during the second verse. Sure to be forthcoming remixes of this one will surely have DJ’s elevating the vocals and craft a mix perfect for our autumn dance floors.
As a biracial woman in the entertainment industry, there was no way I did not want to be a part of Mixed-ish, especially after seeing the pilot, which I loved,” Carey said in a statement to The Wrap. “I could not be more honored and proud to be writing and performing ‘In the Mix’ for (show creator) Kenya [Barris] and the show.”
Mixed-ish premieres this fall on ABC (check local listings)
