With the ending of Ryan Murphy's American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, viewers have been craving Murphy’s auteur elegance and point of view. When first learning of Murphy’s forthcoming project Pose, the news shook fans who discovered that the groundbreaking work would feature over 50 LGBTQ characters, a record in American television history.
Pose takes place in 1980s New York and follows the subculture of the ball world (a la Paris is Burning). The series features five trans actors, Angelia Ross, MJ Rodriguez, Indya Moore, Dominique Jackson, and Hailie Sahar. Aside from these breakout stars, Evan Peters and Kate Mara play a New Jersey couple who become immersed in the ball culture of NYC and its eleganza! With roles played by James Van Der Beek and Kinky Boots’ Billy Porter who will play the ballroom MC Pray Tell.
Now, we have the much-anticipated trailer to Pose that gives us an incredible look at the nuances of the show including documentary-style filming and interviews and a dated look that will transport you to 1980s NYC. It's definitely giving us 10s across the board!
Open the door. Step inside. Have a ball.
Pose premieres on Sunday, June 3rd on FX, which will kick-off LGBT Pride Month. Season One will have eight episodes—but we already want more!
