BAFTA Denies Bryan Singer Director Nomination!

The Child-Sexual Abuse Allegations Continue To Haunt Him!

By now everyone should know the child sexual abuse allegations that span for two decades against Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men director, Bryan Singer. Just saying his name gives me the goosebumps – so taboo. After the big Singer piece came out via The Atlantic, I penned an extensive breakdown of Singer's allegations which included my personal story of being a young, flamboyant twink living in West Hollywood where Singer allegedly stalks his prey. It's still mind blowing to me Singer continues to get work and the press has not taken to shaming him as they shamed Harvey Weinstein, especially since these are allegations against children – but perhaps that's a different conversation for another day. However, some people have taken notice of Singer's poor behavior. GLAAD recently rejected Singer's latest film, Bohemian Rhapsody, in nominations for their awards – and rightfully so. Now, more people are calling out Singer for these severe child sexual abuse allegations.

According to VarietyThe British Academy of Film and Televisions Arts (BAFTA) has recognized the allegations against Singer, although he denies all of them. BAFTA released a statement:

“Bohemian Rhapsody received seven BAFTA film nominations in all. Those noms all remain in place, but Singer’s name, who stood alongside Graham King and Anthony McCarten in the nod for best British film, has been removed. In light of recent very serious allegations, BAFTA has informed Bryan Singer that his nomination for Bohemian Rhapsody has been suspended, effective immediately,” the British Academy said in a statement. BAFTA considers the alleged behavior completely unacceptable and incompatible with its values. This has led to Mr. Singer’s suspended nomination. BAFTA notes Mr. Singer’s denial of the allegations. The suspension of his nomination will therefore remain in place until the outcome of the allegations has been resolved.”

What champions in the era of #MeToo and justice! I'm incredibly stoked that BAFTA is still going to recognize the work still done by the actors and crew. I refuse to watch Bohemian Rhapsody because of Singer's involvement, but it is getting tons of buzz for many academy awards, including The Oscars, so apparently it's a great film. Finally, we are starting to watch as Singer's pillar slowly falls. What will fall next for him? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, a Twitter user suggests BAFTA was about to award Singer as director for Bohemian Rhapsody and then realized that may not be a good idea. Makes one think…
