Looks like those rumors of a deleted gay sex scene were unfounded, at least for now.
Earlier this week, we shared with you the story that Paramount may be trying to silence a 40-second gay love scene in the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman.
Last year, lead actor Taron Egerton shared that he and Richard Madden, who plays Elton John’s manager and lover John Reid, filmed a short scene which included a “nude cuddle.”
“I finished working on it two days ago and I think it could be the best thing I’ve done,” he shared. “It feels very special and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’ve always loved singing and musicals, and I felt that there was that big side of myself that I haven’t explored yet in films but this gave me the opportunity to do that. And it’s very consciously a proud, gay film and it’s also open to showing Elton’s darker moments.”
Reports then started to spread that distribution company Paramount Pictures was trying to have this scene cut from the final edit. But now, director Dexter Fletcher has come forward to say that story simply isn’t true.
Fletcher shared this clarification through Twitter and posted the following:
“Seeing much speculation about ROCKETMAN!! That’s good! It’s still unfinished so it’s nothing but rumors,” Fletcher wrote. “It has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and producers passionately support and believe in. See for yourself May 24.”

This post echoes Fletcher’s words with Daily Mail. Talking to the British news source, Fletcher shared:
“This film is going to make people’s jaws hit the ground. Elton just said, ‘Tell it all. Go as R-rated as you need to.’ And we do just that, with his blessing. The flaws and the genius are all there.”
