I am not a fan of donating my blood. Yeah, I'm one of those people. But in the past I ran blood drives and had to deal with those of us that were turned away because we had sex with another man since 1977, three years after I was born.
We all know the ban is a little kooky. How kooky? Our friend Matt Baume updates us on the ban, how often we can have sex if we want to be able to donate, and what may happen to the ban under president Trump.
Back in the 80s, when the ban was created, it was a best-guess effort to keep blood donations safe since there hadn't been much research yet. But we've learned a lot since then, so does the science support keeping the ban in place?
