Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead this morning in her Park Avenue apartment in Manhattan. Her housekeeper entered and found the designer unresponsive around 10:20 a.m.
NYPD is currently investigating the death, but it is believed to be an apparent suicide by hanging with a scarf according to NBC News. She was 55.
Kate Spade worked for Mademoiselle Magazine in the 1980s, but rose to fame as a premiere handbag designer in 1993 when she began her company with her husband Andy Spade. Her first New York store opened in 1996 with over 300 stores worldwide today. In 2007, Spade sold her brand to Coach for $2.4 billion.
