Los Angeles-based queer hip hop artist Big Dipper is back with another fun and colorful music video that shows more than one of his chameleon sides. His video Pressed, is out now and delivers a bright and boisterous look at the artist in his playful bear habitat.
2018 was a busy year for Big Dipper with the release of his singles LOOKIN, WHY WE CAN’T, THICCNESS and the release of his full-length album LATE BLOOMER.
LATE BLOOMER features collaborations with Rena, Will Sheridan, Divoli S’vere, Show You Suck, Uncle Meg, and Drag Race’s Peppermint and Shea Couleé.
The independent recording artist is known for celebrating all body types, especially big and juicy ones. Big Dipper’s videos frequently feature big beautiful bears that punctuate the sexy sounds of each track and with the video for his new single we get all Big Dipper, all the furry time.
Big Dipper shared with Instinct how this new video came to be:
INSINCT: This video feels a little different and fresh for you, what was the inspiration?
BIG DIPPER:
This video came together really quickly when I was on a trip in Chicago. I had been following Beau aka @barcodeboi and his partner @mydadsdead for awhile on IG…and they both turn out these amazing looks to attend and host club nights in Chicago. When I was performing one night in town I ran into them and pitched the idea of doing a music video together. We shot the video the following week…it all came together really quickly.
INSTINCT: Where did the choices for the different looks in this video come from?
BD:
We basically looked thru @barcodeboi’s instagram and talked about different looks and makeup ideas that I was drawn to and how they related to different sides of my personality. We landed on the 4 looks from the video and essentially used my music to feature Beau’s makeup artistry and styling. Thematically it really worked with the idea of PRESSED.
INSTINCT: What can fans look forward to next from Big Dipper?
BD:
Well I released my full length album LATE BLOOMER in August of 2018 and it has tons of great music on it (you can stream it everywhere). I may be putting together a video or two from that…but I’m also super excited by my new EP project that I’m building with @sodrove. Aiming for new music and visuals for summer 2019. Also I’m probably performing at a pride festival or party in your town this summer. And if I’m not, you should hit me up; I’m actively booking out the rest of the year. I spend most of the summer out on the road performing and it’s a great time.
Aside from being a recording artist, Big Dipper is the co-host of the podcast unBEARable with drag performer Meatball. The two team up every week as they dish out about bear culture, sex, snacks, as well as feature special guests. The podcast is currently on hiatus, but season three is on its way!
