Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend should forget what conservative gays have to say about it. It has bigger issues to deal with. Specifically, this year’s event turned deadly as one participant died of a heart attack.

According to Metro Weekly, the Metropolitan Police Department was called to the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill on January 19. When they arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious man and were told CPR had already been attempted on the man. Despite that, paramedics from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services attempted CPR again. Sadly, they were unsuccessful. The victim was then pronounced dead at the scene.

MPD officers have not yet released the man’s identity to the public. That said, Patrick Grady, the chairman of Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend 2020, says the death was a “medical emergency.”

“All that we have knowledge of is that he had a medical emergency and passed away,” Grady told reporters. “Any rumors swirling around are all false.”

“It’s a very unfortunate situation,” Grady added. “The club is distressed, and sends love and respect to the family.”
