Madonna has reimagined herself as everything from a cowgirl to an earth mother to dancehall queen, but a burgeoning artist has taken to Instagram and reimagined the Material Girl as a persona that she has not taken on yet; a comic book heroine.
Liam Alexander is a London based artist, and has taken fourteen of her full studio albums (not counting soundtracks and compilations) and is creating stunning comic book covers with the Queen of Pop front and center on each and every one, super heroine style.
Each of the covers features nods to each song on a particular album’s tracklist, and they run the gamut. The White Heat movie poster from the True Blue album, a saloon called The Anchor on the Music album (referencing lyrics to the song “Runaway Lover”), and Madonna’s Erotica-era moniker Dita featured prominently as a business name.
“I’m currently working through a roster of my favorite artists, reimagining their work in this style,” Liam told Gay Times. “It’s my way of paying tribute to each era and I get to combine my love of music and comics. Madonna was high on my list because she’s always been a huge inspiration”.
