Brooke Lynn Hytes became one of the breakout stars during the 11th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race this past year.
She was an irresistible mix of fierce fashion, comedic timing and delightful charm that helped her become one of the series’ biggest fan favorites. Brooke also put her homeland of Canada on the map as a contestant for the first time in the show’s history… eh!
Sky is the limit for this tall drink of water now. She hit the ground running after becoming runner-up to winner Yvie Oddly by touring all over the world, hanging with Canadian prime minster Justin Trudeau, landing a cover of New York Magazine and so much more.
Brooke chatted with us at Instinct about what her life has been like post-show. She also discussed her relationship with fellow season 11 contestant Vanessa Vanjie Matteo, her thoughts on Drag Race: Canada finally happening and if she will ever appear on a future season of All Stars.
What has life been like for you after S11 finished?
Life after season 11 has been a whirlwind, it has been non-stop, go, go, go.. and I have been loving every second of it. So many opportunities have come my way and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You kind of looked like you knew Yvie was gonna win while y’all sat at the real crowning in San Francisco. Am I wrong here?
I was very happy for her to win. I was happy to get where I got in the competition. Getting on the show is a win in and of itself. Anything that came after that was a blessing and a gift. Did I want to win? Yes. Was I disappointed that I didn’t win? Of course. When you look at the big picture, winning is not always everything. And to me, I won in my own little way. I was expecting her to win and I’m happy for her that she did.
If you got invited to compete on a future season of “All Stars” would you do it?
Yes, if the timing was right, I absolutely would.
Now that RPDR is coming to Canada are there any queens you hope get cast from your home country?
Yes, there are so many amazing drag queens in Canada. One’s that stick out to me are liking’s like Georgie Girl, Miss Conception, Raye Sunshine, Jane Smoker, Devine Darling. There are so many amazing drag queens in Canada, I can’t name them all.
Set the record straight: WTF is going on with you and Vanjie?
The record’s been set straight multiple times. We are friends, we are not dating. We are good friends and that’s all.
Are you going to DragCon in NYC in September?
I absolutely will be.
Here’s a fun one: if you were a Real Housewife, what would your tag name be?
“Never fear, the queen of the north is here!”
Anything else coming up that our readers should know?
Many irons in the fire right now, but just I can’t speak about any of them right now but stayed tuned.
In conclusion, what’s the biggest goal you want to achieve, both in and out of your drag career?
I have so many goals, I wouldn’t want to limit myself to just one. Some of my goals would be fashion, television, taking my craft to the next level, and inspiring those who have dreams, to chase them and never give up. You never know where they’ll take you.
