It’s Only Spring And We’re Aching For ‘First Tea’ – “I’ll Keep My Light In My Window” Is The Cure.

Jay, this one is for you.  My roommate is a little kray kray and P-Town obsessed when it comes to the First Tea Dance of the year. More than once when we lived together in Portland, Maine, he took the 4-hour drive from our abode to the tip of Cape Cod and Provincetown, Massachusetts to partake in a three hour dance, just to drive home 4 hours.  When you're dedicated, you're dedicated. And when you're kray kray …

I've been to the teas at the Boatslip and they are f*&king fantastic. I'm not sure I would drive the 8-hour round trip, but if I am in town, I will be there.  The music is on point and epic.  Spending the three hours with Resident DJ Maryalice makes the day, the weekend, the trip. Okay, the adult beverages / punches help a great deal too.

I am sure Maryalice has played this one before, but if she hasn't we expect "I'll Keep My Light in My Window" will be spinning very soon. Here is the clip from the Netflix series The Get Down.

"I'll Keep My Light in My Window" was written by Leonard Caston and Terri McFaddin and recorded in 1974 by Caston and Majors, with additional recordings by Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye, Eruption, The Temptations, and more.

Mylene Cruz and The Soul Madonnas are fictional characters portrayed by Herizen Guardiola ("Mylene Cruz"), Stefanée Martin ("Yolanda Kipling") and Shyrley Rodriguez ("Regina Diaz") in the Netflix series The Get Down. Marrakech Star Records, Platinum Boogie and the series of events described above are also fictitious, with the exception of the songwriters and previous recordings of "I'll Keep My Light in My Window."

Fictitious or not, the performance is epic and has us aching for that summer tea. The song is one I had never heard before (take my gay card now) but I think it is a new favorite.
