After 25 Seasons, Judy Sheindlin Makes A Verdict: It’s Time To Leave The Courtroom Series

Everyone knows Judge Judy Sheindlin as a tough as nails, no-nonsense woman who has been gracing our televisions since 1996. If you’re a part of the generation that grew up on talk shows, Judy has definitely been an honorary Aunt to you – just as the greats of that era like Sally Jesse Raphael or Jenny Jones. While Judy has been an avid, outspoken LGBTQ ally for decades, she’s recently gained popularity among the younger gays after being put on a pedestal by RuPaul and the other RuPaul’s Drag Race queens who have parodied her or shared their admiration. As RuPaul states: “Only Judy can judge me.” Unfortunately, we’re about to see less of Judy on the airwaves.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Judy is making her final ruling and canceling her series after twenty-five seasons. She makes the announcement as she shares a conversation with Ellen DeGeneres, but gives us a sliver of hope that it’s not the last we’re going to see of her. Sheindlin tells:

“I’ve had a 25-year-long marriage with CBS and it’s been successful. Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary. And CBS, I think, sort of felt they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program because now they have 25 years of reruns. So what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns. But I’m not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later. Judge Judy, you’ll be able to see next year — a full year, all new shows. The following couple of years, you should be able to catch all the reruns that CBS has sold to the stations that are currently carrying Judge Judy, and Judy Justice will be going elsewhere. Isn’t that fun?”

Sheindlin, who was 2018’s highest paid television host (not judge), will have a pretty large shoe to fill with Justice Judy, but perhaps that means we’re going to see her out of the courtroom and getting her hands onto even more entertaining cases? It’s almost fun to predict a show like New York Goes To Work where Flavor of Love’s Tiffany Pollard ran around Los Angeles trying a variety of jobs. Obviously that is way too beneath Judy, but all we have is a title and the predictions can begin. Currently, Judy is making headlines for also endorsing Michael Bloomberg for the 2020 Presidential Election. I’ll let you be the judge of what you want to think of that.
