Kacey Musgraves apparently looked at the opening night of her new tour and thought, “You know what this needs? Balls.”
Not metaphorical balls. Not even particularly subtle balls. We’re talking about two enormous, shiny, anatomical disco balls.
The LGBTQ+ ally kicked off her Middle of Nowhere tour in Chicago with an entrance that was impossible to miss. During Rhinestoned, Musgraves descended from above while perched on a pair of mirrored disco balls, turning what could have been a perfectly normal concert opening into something considerably more memorable.
And, naturally, she had a one-liner ready.
“This is what it looks like when no one tells me no!”

Musgraves Has Always Been a Friend to the Gays
The spectacle might have been cheeky, but Musgraves has a long-standing relationship with the LGBTQ+ community that goes well beyond putting anatomical disco balls above a concert stage. The singer received the GLAAD Vanguard Award in 2022 in recognition of her support for LGBTQ+ people and her advocacy for queer youth.
Her music has also provided plenty of representation over the years. On Same Music, Different Park, she sings about kissing “lots of boys” or “lots of girls” depending on what you’re into, a lyric that famously earned the song some radio pushback.
So when Musgraves decides to put a giant pair of glittering balls onstage, we’re hardly shocked and only mostly impressed.
The Dry Spell Has Officially Ended
If you’ve been wondering why Musgraves’ latest era is feeling particularly committed to the innuendo, there’s another rather obvious clue.
She’s also teaming up with Medicine Mama on Drought Drops, a product designed to help combat dryness, with Musgraves’ own cheeky description promising to keep “the dry spells away and the good times coming.”
Unfortunately for anyone hoping to grab some immediately, the product is currently sold out. But perhaps that’s fitting, considering Musgraves already has a song called Dry Spell on Middle of Nowhere.
The song is, shall we say, not particularly subtle about the situation. Musgraves sings about having nobody occupying her bed, nobody’s vehicle pulling into her driveway, and finding herself in an unmistakable drought while waiting for things to change.
In other words, she’s single, she’s horny, and she’s apparently decided to turn the entire experience into a marketing strategy.
We respect the commitment.
When Life Gives You a Drought…
There is something wonderfully unserious about the entire Musgraves approach.
Why quietly deal with a dry spell when you can write a song about it, create a product inspired by it, and then launch your tour while sitting on a giant pair of disco balls?
That’s not just turning lemons into lemonade. That’s taking the entire fruit stand and putting it on a glitter-covered stage.
With the Middle of Nowhere tour now underway, fans can expect plenty of music, plenty of rhinestones, and, apparently, plenty of opportunities for Musgraves to remind us that she has absolutely no interest in being boring.
So, perhaps take a cue from Kacey.
Grab life by the balls, embrace the rhinestones, and, if necessary, do something about that dry spell.
