The investigation into Jussie Smollett’s attack has finally seen some progress.
With there being mass interest in Smollett’s case since news broke late last month, Chicago police are being extremely upfront about their investigation.
After some Chicago residents and media sources expressed doubts over Smollett’s account of the attack, police responded by saying they still see Smollett as a victim. Though, Chicago Police Supt Eddie Johnson also stated that Smollett will be held accountable if he’s providing a false report.
But now the police share that they have taken a step further into solving the case.
Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted earlier today that the authorities have identified the persons of interested captured in surveillance footage (which was released at the start of this month).
Said Guglielmi in a public tweet:
“Through s meticulous investigation, #ChicahoPolice [sic] detectives have identified the persons of interest in the area of the alleged attack of the Empire cast member. These individuals are not yet suspects but were in area of concern and are being questioned. Investigation continues.”
He then added in a follow-up tweet: “The people of interest are alleged to be in the area where a crime was reported. They are not considered suspects at this time as they are currently being questioned by detectives. We remain in communication with the alleged victim.”
In addition, this announcement came moments after Jussie Smollett had his first interview since the attack. While the full interview hasn’t released yet, several clips of Smollett’s conversation with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts were released. You can watch those videos down below.
