Matt Rush has been detained by the Broward County Sheriff's office today and charged with battery. Rush (real name Gregory Andrew Grove) was brought in for an apparent 784.03. If you're luck enough not to know what that is, it's under the category of ASSAULT; BATTERY; CULPABLE NEGLIGENCE.
784.03 Battery; felony battery.—
(1)(a) The offense of battery occurs when a person:
1. Actually and intentionally touches or strikes another person against the will of the other; – State of Florida
2. Intentionally causes bodily harm to another person.(2) A person who has one prior conviction for battery, aggravated battery, or felony battery and who commits any second or subsequent battery commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084. For purposes of this subsection, “conviction” means a determination of guilt that is the result of a plea or a trial, regardless of whether adjudication is withheld or a plea of nolo contendere is entered. – State of Florida
Some sites are reporting that there is no bail or bond and Matt / Gregory is in jail.
Apparently they do not know what R.O.R. means on the following bulletin from Sheriff Scott Israel.
R.O.R. = Release on recognizance usually requires the defendant to make a promise that they will attend all future court hearings after they have been released. Thus, a defendant who has been granted a release on recognizance is free to resume their daily life activities, but they must appear in court when summoned.
So Matt/ Gregory was detained, but is out on good faith. No bail or bond needed.
If we examine the file above a little closer, we see that the description of the crime is "TOUCH OR STRIKE/BATTERY/DATING VIOL" Sounds like a domestic issue.
Once again, we do not have all the details in the Rush/Grove case, but it could be a learning experience for us all. A friend recently was in an altercation with his then boyfriend after a long night out of drinking and partying. Police were called and it basically was categorized under domestic violence. Unlike Rush/Grove, they both had to stay in jail for longer than a slap on the hand. Maybe the involvement of alcohol lead to them staying the night and being released in the morning.
And like my friend that spent the night in jail, he says there was not much done on his part int he altercation with his boyfriend, but they both were written up. This may be the case in the Rush/Grove incident. We are not sure.
Matt was at the top of his game just not too long ago. He can be seen around Wilton Manors / Fort Lauderdale often and I've even seen him in a small acting part in one of the local theatres. He did end up taking his clothes off, well the whole cast did eventually, but he ended up missing some of the following performances for unknown reasons.
We wish Matt stays away from whom he needs to or will find what he needs.
