The Fourth of July is over and Hollywood is starting to wake up from its brief holiday break.

And with that return to business also comes a return to rumors within it. What’s the latest story getting whispered around Hollywood by lovers of the business? That there is a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel in the works.

Right now, its nothing official and possibly just an intentional leak to see what the Internet thinks of the idea, but it is something that’s being talked about.

Plus, with the idea of having a Charlie Wonka origin story is the idea that there might already be a leading man for the film.

It turns out that Ryan Gosling is interested in leading the movie, and he might just get it with the extra brownie points he has stored away from the Oscar success that was La La Land.

Screen Rant had more to say about the ongoing development:

Sources say that Warner Bros has been looking for an actor between the ages of 29 and 35. While Gosling sits just outside that age bracket at 36, the La La Land star has apparently expressed interest in playing the character. Warners could possibly be interested in Gosling’s proven singing and dancing abilities, if they are aiming to make the prequel the musical affair that the 1971 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was.

In terms of exactly what sort of story the upcoming prequel will aim to tell, that’s still being kept under wraps. Previous news reports have detailed Warners’ efforts to make it clear that this will not be a sequel of any sort and have also hinted at the possibility of this being a Willy Wonka origin story. Of course, this makes perfect sense if the studio is currently looking to cast their Willy Wonka between the ages of 29 and 35. The film is being produced by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them producer David Heyman, with a script by Simon Rich (The Secret Life of Pets).

So, are you interested in seeing Ryan Gosling take a turn at Willy Wonka?

  1. This is completely

This is completely unnecessary. The story can't be anywhere near as delightful as it is now. Roald Dahl's book is brilliant. If he wants to make a movie, have him make the Glass Elevator movie instead.
