Series of NSFW Vids Appear On WhatsApp

It seems someone online doesn’t want this story to fade away.

Back in June, we shared with you the news of an ongoing scandal surrounding a gay sex video. The video of two men leaked online and instantly shot the Malaysian government into a storm of controversy.

Things got even crazier after cabinet member and political aide Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz admitted to being one of the two men depicted in the video. The political aide not only cited where the sexual encounter happened but also alleged that the other man in the video was Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali. Ali later denied that claim.

As evidence of the country’s homophobic atmosphere, sodomy and gay sex are still a crime (thanks again to laws leftover from British colonialization). Tourism Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi even went so far as to claim this past March that there were no queer or trans people in Malaysia. This is despite the fact that the country hosts an Independent Sexuality festival every year.

But just as things started to settle down with the case, new clips from the encounter have surfaced, according to the Straits Times. Six new clips, each about three minutes long, were distributed in a new WhatsApp group chat called Video Terkini Azmin (Azmin’s latest video). More than 80 politicians and people affiliated with news sources were added to the group chat before the videos were dropped.

The videos all appear to be from the same video that has been sent in bits and pieces to reporters for the past few months. It seems someone in possession of the entire sex tape has been cutting it up and sending parts of the footage to news reporters sporadically in order to keep the topic going.

Mr. Aziz claims to have had no knowledge of the sexual encounter being recorded. And keep in mind, after confessing to being in the video, Aziz was fired and arrested under Section 292 (sale of obscene material), 504 (intent to provoke breach of peace) and 377B (carnal intercourse against nature) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 Multimedia and Communication Act 1998. As such, he had nothing to gain from releasing the video.

As for Minister Armin Ali, he vehemently denies being in the video in the first place. He describes the video as a plot to ruin his political career. Still, the jury’s still out on whether the other man is Azmin because facial recognition technology failed to positively identify him.

But again, it does seem like someone out there is dead set on ending the careers of these two men, as clips of the full video keep appearing online and in the private messages of reporters. And with everyone making a big deal out of this private moment between two men, it’s no wonder how this scandal and its sensationalism is affecting the public opinion of homosexuality. It’s not just Azmin and Aziz’s careers that are at risk, but the lives of LGBTQ people in Malaysia overall.

  1. No, religious zealots are a disease, not true religion. As a practicing and believing Jew the G-d I worship is not one who speaks of damnation and hell to those who dare go against his will. There are too many so called leaders out there who claim to speak in the name of G-d, there reward will come when they get to speak in their defense to the G-d they claim to represent. G-d represents love, not hate and religion is not a disease but a cure to the worlds and man’s woes.

  2. Being Gay is at least a real thing. As opposed to some fake religious cults that don’t actually exist. And please explain why you alleged deity put the best feeling spot on a mans body up his asshole. Sure seems like said alleged deity, went to a lot of trouble to facilitate anal, man on man incredible feeling sexual pleasure.
