Since the beginning of the LGBT revolution, drag queens have been fighting on the front lines of our community for visibility, respect, and a voice. What better way to express that voice so many fought for than in the voting booth?
Today is National Voter Registration Day, marking the official launch of Drag Out The Vote, a new organization launched by author and TedTALK speaker Jackie Huba, also known as Lady Trinity. The new initiative works directly with drag performers to promote a mission that all of us can truly get behind; participation in our democracy.
DragOutTheVote2020 has already begun mobilizing their efforts and organizing voter registration drives at drag events in across the country. Events have been held in Texas, California and Arizona, with many more events to be announced. Drag Out The Vote will work with queens like RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 4 winners Trinity The Tuck and Monet X Change, as well as Drag Race Season Four/All Stars 2’s Phi Phi O’Hara during voting periods to mobilize voters to the polls as well.
This year, there is absolutely no reason to not sashay to the voting booth at our next election and make your voice heard!
