America Mourns Another Mass Shooting Tragedy

Seriously, when will this stop?! In America, we’ve once again had another mass shooting ending the lives of numerous young adults.

According to LA Times, a former United States Marine, Ian David Long (28), allegedly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder threw a smoke bomb into the crowd at Borderline Bar and Grill. Among the crowd were college students, as Wednesday evenings typically targeted them…where the entry age is lowered to eighteen-years-old. After the smoke bomb was thrown, Long unleashed gun fire with a Glock 21 .45-caliber handgun, into the crowds, killing twelve (so far), himself, and many injured. LA Times reported Long has been a problem in his mother’s seemingly quiet neighborhood since April.

As with the rest of sane America, each mass shooting and national tragedy we have strikes me hard. This shooting, in particular, literally hit too close to home as I live less than thirty minutes from Thousand Oaks. I recently went to a fabulous gay Halloween party in the neighborhood two weeks ago. I’m of college-age…my stomach is turning as I write this to you.

Living in West Hollywood, I was rather nervous to see if I knew anyone in attendance. Thankfully, all of my friends and acquaintances have gone unharmed. However, one of my acquaintances has posted on his social media he had lost a friend, Justin Meek, to the massacre at Borderline. Meek is alleged to have died heroically and saved lives during the incident. You can check out the post below:

According to Variety, the shooting has affected the family of Sister, Sister star and The Real co-host, Tamera Mowry-Housley. Mowry-Housley panicked via Twitter as she was in search for her niece, Alaina Housely. Her first gut wrenching tweet is below:

Alaina would end up one of the victims of the shooting by the hands of Long. The Mowry-Housley's released a joint statement:

“Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks. Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.”

Please be kind today and showcase the love you have for your loved ones.
