We now have a release date for The Last of Us Part 2.

Next year is shaping up to be a great year in gaming. Two legendary games series are returning with new releases. Square Enix is dropping a remake of Final Fantasy 7 and Naughty Dog is releasing The Last of Us Part II.

On the latter game, we now know more about the upcoming release. On Tuesday, Naughty Dog held a media event to drop some new info, a trailer, and the release date.

Manly, we already knew that The Last of Us 2 will follow an adult version of fan-favorite character Ellie in the aftermath of a fungus-influenced zombie apocalypse. All grown up, Ellie has fallen in love with another woman. But, the new trailer for The Last of Us 2 reveals that Ellie’s lover has become the victim of violence amongst humans. As such, players lead Ellie through a serious of events on her path towards revenge.

In a letter to fans, Naughty Dog director Neil Druckmann explains that the sequel game is based on spotlighting the darkness of humanity.

“What would you do if someone you loved was the victim of a cruel and violent act? How easily could one’s mind tip toward violent retribution? How far would you go to bring the people responsible to justice? If you were successful, how would it change you? Would you ever be the same?”

“With The Last of Us Part 2, we set out to create an experience that explores these difficult questions, the darkest sides of human nature, and the vicious cycles of violence that we witness in the world around us on a daily basis. The result is a game crafted by hundreds of developers that pushed themselves to create something more than mere entertainment – a game that we’re incredibly proud of and that we hope will enthrall you and challenge your own views of justice and empathy.”

“On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog, we want to thank you for embarking on this journey with us.”

Does that sound exciting to you? Well, you don’t have to wait long, as the game’s release date has been announced as February 21, 2020.
