Are gay circles too sexual? When does it go too far?

When it comes to YouTuber Michael Henry, we’re often used to seeing comedic skits with funny but true commentary about gay life. But Henry’s latest video is deeper and more realistic than the normal content.

In the short film “Adjacent,” Henry and friends Peter Kim and Chad Westbrook go out for a night of dancing. At first, the night seems like any other. But as the night gets further in, the alcohol-induced festivities become questionable. When does sex go too far? When does a hookup become a violating act? We’ll be real with you all, this short film gets dark.

As Henry wrote in the video’s description:

“Adjacent is a short film that my friends and I worked on for a few months. we’re very proud of it and excited to share it with all of you. I want everyone to know that this video does deal with some subject matter that will be considered extra sensitive and/or triggering to some people. it’s the story of a group of gay mens night out on the town and how normalized and overly sexualized the community can be. so when a violation happens sometimes it can be difficult to decipher what is normal and what is a violation.”

With all of this in mind, we have to share a trigger warning for this video. Lines are being blurred by Henry here, poignantly, so be careful before watching.

  1. Yeah, this happens too much in gay life. I would have made sure the guy did as I asked, if I was the bottom. Otherwise, it’s rape. And I know the depiction of the 3 guys was supposed to be funny and represent stereotypes of gay men, but I hate that. I can’t stand someone calling me a “girl” and I am not simpering and tragic like these 3 guys in the video. I think it’s an insult to all gay guys when people act like that.
