Disney+ Warns Of Outdated Depictions And Crashes On Day One Launch

If you’re not keeping up with today’s Impeachment Hearing, you’re eyes may be glued to the latest streaming service to hit our televisions and mobile devices: Disney+. Disney has promised their new streaming service users remote access to thousands of Disney related films and television shows including their classics like The Little Mermaid, animated series like X-Men, and so much more upcoming content that Netflix should be a little intimidated. But, was Disney prepared for the mass amount of users they are getting?

According to CNBC, Disney+ crashed on their launch day – after ten million (repeat that, 10 million) people subscribed since it’s launch twenty-four hours ago. But, with popularity comes kinks as the streaming service did briefly crash yesterday. However, it’s back up and running and so far the internet is loving their new streaming service. There is such an overload of content that the service provides, one Twitter user is claiming even choosing your profile picture is difficult:

According to Variety, Disney is already a step ahead of any criticism they may face from their classic films. As many of those who are “woke” already know that Disney has had some rather… choice depictions in their films early in it’s creation. Dated darlings like Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, and Peter Pan have a warning message before you tune into the film. Disney has left their films unedited, which is great for the art of it all, but does give their warning (and pretty much an apology) before you watch telling:

“The cartoons you are about to see are products of their time. They may depict some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that were commonplace in American society. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. While these cartoons do not represent today’s society, they are being presented as they were originally created. Because to do otherwise would be that (SP) same as claiming these prejudices never existed.”

It’s worth noting that Disney’s uber “What the hell” film Song of the South is completely missing from the virtual library and will probably not be inserted at all. I mean, let’s be real – that movie is filled with bigotry.
