The holiday season is upon us and so is time to spend with the family. Is this a joyous activity for you or is it one of dread, disgust, and clock watching. Are you all excited and ask the question, are we there yet? Or are you looking for excuses and mumbling, can we leave now?
It seems that Saturday Night Live jumped into some of our heads and came out with this all true skit.

Avoidance is one of the ways in which we may deal with family during "the most wonderful time of the year."
But what if we will find ourselves home for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and we cannot escape to a lovely inviting parking lot? What if there needs to be interaction, discussion, and the sharing of feelings?
Matt Baume has this message for us.
Well happy holidays everyone! And also ugh, the holidays. If you're heading home to family, there's a good chance politics is going to come up at some point. You might be dreading seeing relatives who voted for Trump, and feeling frustrated after this election. If only there was a way you could use these holidays help your relatives see things from your perspective. Well there is! Thanks to science.
His message does focus on the Trump / Clinton results, but I can remember when this might have been good advice for many topics, like Obama, marriage equality, HB-2, etc.
Pick your poison. Parking lot of avoidance or a 4 step process for interaction with loved ones?

Mine is always to gravitate toward the relatives that you love and accept you for you.
And if the holidays are a time of tension, maybe pick only one of the holidays to spend with family and the other with friends or even alternate every year, both ways would cut the lovely time spent with family in half.
