Canada's parliament passed a landmark measure Thursday to protect transgender and non-binary citizens from discrimination, drawing praise from rights advocates and the country's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Bill C-16 was adopted with a 67 to 11 vote, reports Canadian broadcaster CTV News, amending the country's Human Rights Act to add "gender identity and gender expression" to the list of federally prohibited grounds for discrimination. – time.com

What could be considered as groud breaking in anti-discrimination, also applies to a more thoughtful court system.  The Criminal Code will also change due to the new Bill becoming Law.  It would require judges to consider hate or bias based on gender expression as aggravating factors during sentencing hearings.

"In Canada we celebrate inclusion and diversity, and all Canadians should feel safe to be themselves," said Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould in a statement after the bill's passing. – time.com

We can only applaud Canada as we cry here in the United States. There's no other way to put it than our government here in the US is fucking up beyond belief.  Head over to the Buzzfeed article titled "Commerce Department Removes Sexual Orientation And Gender Identity From Equal Employment Policy"  Yeah.  The 'Merican't guvment just left us off another list.  If they can do it with the census, why not everything else? They since have apologized for the mistake on the most recent Equal Employment Policy and said ala Sean Spicer, "duh, we didn't forget you, we won't discriminate, we just didn't put you on the list, m'kay?"

Dear Commerce Team:

I understand the concerns of many Department of Commerce staff following the 2017 EEO policy statement. I want to assure you that the EEO statement was never intended to change policy or exclude any protected categories. The Department of Commerce remains committed to nondiscrimination on the basis of transgender status and sexual orientation. Department employees will continue to enjoy the fullest extent of the protections of all the non-discrimination laws. Please find below a reissued employee opportunity statement that fully reflects my views and the views of the Department.

I wonder how they would react if some of these WASP leaders weren't invited to sit with us.

I think we need to do more of that.

Let's just not invite them on our trip to see our more sensible neighbors to the north.

Oh Canada!  We're on our way!
