Is Porn Damaging Or Healthy?
SPLOOGE! Yep, that’s likely a sound we’ve all heard while watching pornography. It’s apparent that anything can be healthy in doses. Pornography is likely no exception. A flaky hookup, poor date, or simply time alone can all be healed with a simple search engine to locate your next favorite pornography video…for the next few minutes. Porn, however, can certainly become an addiction. I’ve encountered friends who would much rather have a virtual date than an actual human being. In theory, it makes me a little fearful with all of the robotic sex dolls that appear to be on the up and up!
According to Slate, one writer believes that porn will never be banned in the United States. She favors pornography, claiming that instead of using it as a tool to degrade women, moral issues, and a fantasy of sex; she believes the videos bring up conversation that can lead to a healthy sex life.
Slate’s thoughtful article gave me my own thoughts. Will porn ever be banned? I immediately think of the LGBTQ community – we glorify porn stars, until they, ahem – become involved in alleged sex scandals – and live in a culture more or less led by sex. Personally, I believe porn can definitely blur the lines of reality. In the gay community, we have an endless amount of fantasy porn including turning straight men gay, anonymous sex scenes, and orgies. While some of us may not experience these fantasies, I believe we all get to live vicariously through them. Perhaps pornography heels these fantasies so they remain simply in our heads and should never be acted on. Watching pornography is much healthier than having the ruthless, staged sex we are witnessing.
On the flip side, we do have to examine the lives of said Porn Stars. It’s simple to say someone like Topher DiMaggio’s reputation is now stunned – although I’m certain he’ll find work in some particular way – and many others who have been in pornography are permanently scarred. While amateur porn stars essentially do what they love almost for free – many porn stars enter the industry as a means for quick money, an out, or an idea of fame. The ones who are seemingly getting us off may be damaged from their one-off profession. Yes, the odds are likely they may be very happy in their careers, but what about the actors who are not boasting on social media and hosting party events. Do they live in shame and paranoia, hoping their past doesn’t come back to haunt them?
For the sake of Slate’s article, I don’t believe pornography will ever be banned. In the growing age of social media, it’s almost easy – as we’ve learned from household names such as Kim Kardashian – to acquire fame from a sex tape. Pornography is personal. It brings up conversations, arouses our fantasies, and gives us sexual ideas we’d like to perform in our everyday lives. Porn, whether we like it or not, is not going anywhere. In some way, I honestly believe – it shouldn’t.

Porn probably won’t be banned
Porn probably won't be banned but viewers of it should be aware of its consequences so they can decide if it's worth it. Generally, it's not worth it but still difficult to stop. One book that is helping many to stop is Power Over Pornography. It is different than other methods but works.
Lots of things are harmful to
Lots of things are harmful to some of the people who take part in it, but they are not illegal because the harm doesn't uniformly outweigh the perceived benefits: drinking, smoking, gambling, and so forth. Recreational use of cannabis is joining that group of vices. So yeah, porn will never be banned unless Boston goes back to its old ways.
Pornography offers a sexual
Pornography offers a sexual outlet for people who have difficulties connecting with others. They have poor self-esteem, think themselves unappealing and don't have the support system to help them change these attitudes. Furthermore, people in rural and small town settings need this as an outlet, either to guide them as they grow to adulthood or when there are no others around. While much of it is boring, it's necessary for a certain part of the population. No, I don't think it should be banned and if the Christian Right has their way, the contraband situation will be outrageous.
In these days of bigoted, hypocritical politicians being caught engaging in activities they voted against, fake news and all this other BS as we sink back into tired, outdated attitudes, those of us hoping for positive change, need to fight against this foolishness!

You do realize that many liberal Women’s Rights groups that are hardly right wing do no support porn because it espouses violence against women. Studies are beginning to show porn is causing problems with gay male married couples at almost the same percentage as their straight counterparts. Also a good amount of porn being viewed is at the workplace. Porn is not therapeutic for anyone. It isolates, it does not create healthy outlets.
