The world has now experienced Britain’s first same-sex royal wedding.
Back in June, we shared with you the news that a British royal family member would be getting married to his male partner.
While Lord Ivar Mountbatten isn’t a member of the immediate family, he is a close cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and great-nephew of Earl Mountbatten of Burma.
Ivar Mountbatten came out as bisexual in 2016 and also announced that he had been in a secret relationship with a man named James Coyle.
The two had apparently met in 2014 at an upmarket Swiss alpine resort in Verbier, according to the Deccan Chronicle. Four years into their relationship, Mountbatten and Coyle are happily married.
The two were married at a private wedding with 60 family members and friends, including Mountbatten’s three daughters and former wife, happily attending. In fact, Mountbatten’s ex-wife, named Penny, gave him away at the ceremony.
Now, Mountbatten and Coyle will be heading off to either Greece or Croatia for their honeymoon. The destination hasn’t been decided yet, and will be completed later this year.
On Instagram, Mountbatten commented on the joyous occasion with the following message:
“Well we did it finally! It was an amazing day despite the miserable British weather. Fabulous service conducted by Trish Harrogate, chief Registrar for Devon, who set the perfect but lighthearted tone for what is a serious occasion. The accompanying gospel choir were amazing. Thank you so much to Bristol’s Teachers Rock Choir for your superb singing. Most importantly a massive thanks to my 3 gorgeous girls for being so understanding and supportive, without their support this could never have happened! And finally the biggest thank you to James for being just perfect”
Congratulations to the happy couple!
