Clifford the Big Red Dog Added Lesbian Moms?!

Alright, what got One Million Moms mad this time? Clifford’s friends with lesbian moms?! Thanks for the heads up!

Last year, we were happy to share with you the news of PBS show Arthur depicting a gay wedding. Now, it seems that another PBS classic is including LGBTQ-representation. In recent episodes of the rebooted Clifford the Big Red Dog, Clifford and his owner Emily Elizabeth are introduced to the two moms of their friend Samatha.

Of course, not everyone was happy to see this. One Million Moms, which is really just one staffer named Monica Cole, expressed displeasure at seeing the episode.

“The same-sex couple was first introduced in a mid-February episode titled ‘The Big Red Tomato/Dogbot.’ There was no disclaimer at the beginning of the episode where their relationship is explained,” wrote the always-at-arms OMM.

Cole then complained about other recent incidents of PBS being LGBTQ-inclusive such as the-before-mentioned gay wedding on Arthur and the appearance of Billy Porter on Sesame Street.

But let’s not focus on that incredibly outspoken hater too much. Because just as there was pushback to the LGBTQ-inclusion happening over at PBS, there was praise too. Even better, many did not even know of these characters existing on the public platform until One Million Moms started harking about it. So thank you for that!

Thank you to PBS for giving us the LGBTQ representation we wish we had when we were kids. Also, it goes to show that the mere inclusion of same-sex couples and LGBTQ characters is as family-friendly as their straight peers.
